Thanks to everyone for all the "Get Well Soon" wishes!!
my pink eyes are gone (THANK the LORD). I believe I have some sort of a sinus infection but am dealing with it... it is a walk in the park after having pink eye in BOTH eyes!!
on another note, tomorrow is a BIG DAY for me!
Tomorrow I pick where I want to do my nursing preceptorship.
Generally the unit you pick to do a preceptorship on is the unit you will be offered a job on (hopefully) when you graduate... so it is a pretty big deal.
The bad news? I am going to be up all night deciding what sort of nurse I want to be.
It is a lot of pressure.
Any thoughts? Input? Opinions?

I really want to say OB! My sister works in the ICU and she loves it (for the most part). Good luck deciding - hopefully you have a sense of the direction you want to go in!
ReplyDeleteEmergency Room! You get to see a little bit over everything - OB, Peds (if it's an all-ages ER), oncology, orthopedics, nephrology, respiratory, rehab, geriatrics, psych, post-op... But also keep in mind that if you don't get the preceptorship you want, it can still work for good. My program had so many students and not everyone got the slot that they wanted. I ended up doing a renal/dialysis unit, which was not my first choice. However, it turned out to be a great experience. I'm not doing anything related to renal now, but my first job in the ER, the reason why the director decided to interview me (they normally didn't take new grads) was because I'd done a preceptorship on renal/dialysis, which was where she'd done hers. So you never know!
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about nursing! (My MIL and BIL and his wife are all nurses... I, however, am a medial idiot.)
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your decision!
(Glad you feel better!)
Good luck! I have had the sinus junk and one eye infection this week. Stupid allergies!
ReplyDeleteWow! Cool! Awesome! Fun! Scary! Good for you for getting this far. I'm not medically inclined so the only advice I could give you is to go with the things you enjoy most. Be sure to let us know what you decide and where you'll be working.
ReplyDeleteExciting!! I did mine in the OR, and after graduation was an OR nurse for five years. However there are just so many amazing places you could go, I don't think I could even begin to try to suggest just one! But that's the awesome part about nursing, I've been a nurse for 8 years and I'm making my 2nd big focus switch, going to the ICU in January. Lots of options!!
